Interview Skills Reflection

Question: Talk about theInterview Skills Reflection. Answer: Presentation Following the experience picked up from the in-class talk with, I have come to discover that there are significantly more principal components identified with meeting aptitudes. Meeting abilities incorporate a few factors that larger part of individuals will in general underestimate. It takes something beyond going to a meeting and reacting to the inquiries questions. For instance, it is significant for an interviewee to plan long enough before the booked day of the meeting. Readiness, for this situation, involves setting oneself up in regards to knowing the reason for the meeting and how to manage meet related feelings of trepidation and vulnerabilities. For this situation along these lines when a meeting builds up the motivation behind a meeting he/she should investigate on the most posed inquiries about the reason for the meeting. It additionally involves realizing how to address certain inquiries. Different things that an interviewee should watch are, for example, dressing for th e event, concentrating on great introduction, certainty, making great first articulation and show of competency. My most prominent qualities with regards to talk with aptitudes are making first acceptable impression and showing of competency. These are helpful in that they are among the principal factors that questioners consider while choosing the best up-and-comer. The early introduction is significant in that it tells the interviewer(s) progressively about the interviewee. For instance, they center around such factors as; certainty, introduction, and language both communicated in and non-verbal communication. Certainty is essential for a fruitful meeting in that it decides how one reacts to the inquiries. Absence of certainty, then again, may prompt absent mindedness, uneasiness, improper reactions, disarray accordingly prompting the general poor introduction. Competency, then again, is similarly significant in a meeting setting. In regard to talk with, competency compares to how well an interviewee is acquainted with the inquiries being posed. For one to intrigue the interviewers(s), it is essential to endeavor all the inquiries posed. Now and again the reactions may not generally be the right ones or the most proper ones, however an endeavor to answer shows that one's competency. In future, I could keep chipping away at defeating anxiety to improve my meeting abilities. I have understood that I am a survivor of anxiety not long before I turn up for a meeting despite the fact that I in the long run get over it once the meeting starts. In any case, apprehension can have unfavorable impacts, for example, meddling with one's certainty and the capacity to review a few things. To conquer scenes of apprehension I mean to utilize unwinding methods and other significant procedures that might be useful in beating anxiety to guarantee that I perform to my best. These strategies incorporate; great meeting arrangement, change of point of view and keeping up an inspirational mentality. Planning may mean expecting the sudden, for example, some troublesome inquiries, a board meet, a short or delayed meeting just as numerous inquiries. Keep up a decent mentality calls for positive pondering oneself, being sure and staying hopeful. I likewise consider talking with my group ins tructor o how best I can improve my meeting aptitudes.

Exemplary of the kinds of arguments made by realist, liberal and Essay

Model of the sorts of contentions made by pragmatist, liberal and basic scholars of International Politics - Essay Example The liberal scholars accept that there ought to be balance for all, while basic scholars fundamentally break down the systems deciding universal legislative issues. The liberal scholars accept that the offices and amusement offered in the Olympic Games ought to be accessible and available to all the segments of the intrigued network. They accept that the way that the sorting out advisory group has held a few highlights solely for the competitors and sponsors’ agents just is vile and ought to be accessible to nearby network also. (Boykoff and Tomlinson, 2012) The nonconformists have contended the way that since the commencement of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in the 1890’s (known as some other relationship around then) was framed as a body comprising of elites just which included rulers and sovereigns, and these were the individuals who might cast a ballot and choose the destiny of the Olympics. This procedure at that point began to remember more partners fo r this dynamic body yet just a chosen few that is the large businesspeople who might control the business part of the games. Indeed, even today, the democratic procedure isn't totally fair-minded and the votes have been supposedly to be one-sided with the assistance of pay off and different advantages to countries who include in such defilement. Other than this, the safety efforts taken to ensure the Olympic Games includes tremendous costs which will have enormous financial expenses just as mental ones. The military troopers sent in London in territories close to the Olympic scene even surpasses the quantity of British officers conveyed in Afghanistan. This features the way that local people have not been treated as equivalents on the grounds that most of these fighters are conveyed for the security of competitors and organizers’ delegates and not local people. The pragmatist scholars can introduce a contention to this as indicated by their convictions. The pragmatists conten d that the security of the country and for this situation, the security of London is substantially more significant to benefit the country than conveying more soldiers to Afghanistan. Sending more soldiers to Afghanistan will profit the world generally by battling the fear based oppressors and keeping them at their home instead of letting them go into their nations for psychological oppressor assaults. Then again, the fighters conveyed in London for the security of the Olympic games is substantially more essential to the country as it has higher stakes appended to the validity of England and London to host such a significant and lofty occasion. Since the notoriety, infusion of funds and sightseers, and believability of the country and British government was joined to these games, it is just fitting that the safety efforts are taken to benefit the nation itself. Since the pragmatist hypothesis accepts that personal circumstance must be the main goal, for this situation the security o f the country is increasingly significant as personal responsibility needs to take need. (Dowling, 2012) The pragmatists likewise contend that if there should be an occurrence of an ethereal hit with the assistance of a ground-to-air rocket, there might be some harm caused to the occupants living in the region where the episode happens. Notwithstanding, the harm brought about by this will be blow-back and one that can't be maintained a strategic distance from or rather ought not be given the way that this inadvertent blow-back will be substantially less looked at

14 Tips for Thinking on Your Feet When Youre Put on the Spot and Have to Sound Smart

14 Tips for Thinking on Your Feet When Youre Put on the Spot and Have to Sound Smart How many times have you been asked the following questions in your work life?“Why Should We Hire You Over Every Other Client?”“Where Do You Want To See Your Company 10 Years From Now?”“Why Didn’t X Company Accept Our Offer? It’s a constant barrage of questions. Some of them could be a casual “How’s it going?.” But other times, they could be something that makes us sweaty, jittery or panicky.Sometimes, we find ourselves in situations where we have to think on our feet without anticipation and that is often the case with highly sophisticated and top-of-the-line businesses being able to improvise in order to answer questions that are both unexpected and difficult.People usually ask unprecedented questions for the sake of acquiring information, but other times, they want to get a feel of your attitude towards a certain topic or situation to see how calm, confident and dependable you can be.Apart from being asked questions, there are also times when we are asked to con tribute our thoughts and views during an important conversation. It’s one thing to prepare ourselves for what we are about to say and share with our teammates at a monthly gathering, but it’s a whole other ballgame to be able to think on our feet in unexpected circumstances and that’s usually terrifying. But that’s the usual nature of operating a high-profile company learning to deal with out-of-the-blue dangers. Besides, you can think of these situations as another aspect of problem-solving.In reality, it doesn’t matter how much-advanced preparation you do, there will come a time when you don’t have the right answer or solution to unforeseen questions or when you’re unprepared to lead a conversation at a conference. But the important thing is to overcome this hurdle and turn it into a skill. That way, you’ll be more comfortable in any event, be it attending a meeting, selling an idea, presenting a proposal, or answering questions after a presentation. And once you m aster it, every one of your clever responses will instill immediate confidence in whatever you have to say. Therefore, confidence is the primary element to employ in getting you to think on your feet. Be sure that you know what you’re talking about and are well-informed when you present information, provide suggestions or give an opinion. Don’t think that you have to know everything when you don’t. But as long as you are confident in your knowledge of the subject, you can deliver your response without panicking, even when you weren’t scheduled for this. Now let’s look at some of the most effective tactics you can collect yourself in situations that you were put in on such short notices.TIPS ON HOW TO GET YOU TO THINK ON YOUR FEETThere is no substitute for preparation, even when it comes to events that you never knew you were going to be a part of. That’s why it’s always a good idea to learn some skills and tactics to prep yourself1.  Relax YourselfWhen you feel the press ure of being the center of attention, it is natural to feel nervous. But if you get it together, your brain can’t think and you might stammer when trying to speak. Hence, you should do your best to beat anxiety, relax and compose yourself. Try these tips for practice:Take Deep Breaths: Deep breathing is extremely useful in stressful moments. In fact, the American Institute of Stress asserts that this method of relaxation increases oxygen supply to our brains and stimulates parasympathetic nervous system, that puts us in a state of calmness.  Breathing deeply helps relax your muscles, slow down racing heartbeats and quiets the mind. So be sure to do this before you respond to an impromptu question to collect your mind and think clearly.Practice A Positive And Affirming Message: Give yourself positive thoughts confidence such as “I can do this” or “I’ve got this.” When faced with scenarios that require quick thinking, it’s good practice to motivate yourself with a few in spiring quotes, words or phrases.Tense Your Muscles: Tensing your muscles can help relieve stress from your body to help you concentrate better. Be sure to choose muscles that can’t be seen by the questioner, such as biceps or thigh muscles.2.  Listen to the Question CarefullyWhen the questioner throws their question at you, ensure that you give your utmost attention to what they’re saying. For better results, cancel out any distractions such as silencing your cell phone and closing your laptop. It’s also a good thought to study your questioner body language. When they ask the question, focus on their hand movements, eyes, and facial expressions. If they are smiling and making eye contact with you, it means they are interested in what you have to say. But it’s not always the case because it might be just a facade to conceal their true feelings.3.  Ask to Repeat the QuestionIf you didn’t understand the question at first, then it’s alright to politely ask the questioner to repeat it. This by no means, undermines your confidence in the presence of others, but rather gives you an opportunity to hear the question again in order to get a better understanding of it and respond more accurately. It also allows the questioner to rephrase the question so that it is on point and easier for you to comprehend. For all you know, the questioner might have also been thinking on their feet when coming up with the question.4.  Speak With Confidence It might seem vague, so we’ll just demonstrate how you can speak with confidence and motivation with these:Speak In a Slow Pace: When under pressure, it’s tough to try and speak the words that we want to say. If you’re less certain about the next idea you want to talk about, then it’s probably best for you to speak slowly. This will allow your brain more time to process the insights, thoughts or ideas you want to get out of your mouth. It will also allow your audience to better process your response.Speak With a Str ong Voice: Please ensure that you don’t fill your response with “uhs” or “umms” and speak clearly with continued intonation. Strategic pauses are handy in allowing you to think and increase the strength and impact of your words.Maintain Eye Contact: If you’re not maintaining eye contact with your prospect, it will make them feel you’re not engaged with the meeting. So don’t give them the chance to feel that way about you by not straying your eyes away from them.  5.  Ask Clarifying QuestionsIf you’re still not sure how to answer, then you can ask several short questions of your own for clarification. You can go about it like this:Prospect Type Question: “Do you think your product has the X feature like that of Y competitor?”Clarification Type Question 1: “That’s a good question. Could you tell me a little more about the purpose of X feature?”Clarification Type Question 2: “How could you utilize X feature?”Clarification Type Question 3: “How would X feature be of any benefit to your brand?”By asking these questions and learning about the significance that X feature presents to your prospect, you can get more context with which you can answer their question. It also gives you the opportunity to think whether your company has a similar feature such as X available or in development.5.  Project ConfidenceIt all comes down to the amount of confidence you have in yourself. To be more specific, if you know what you do and how good you are at it, are regularly engaged with your tasks, have strong interactions with your peers and managers in general and have learned the industry, then you should be more comfortable in sharing your views, insights, and opinions in any situation.6.  Be HonestIf you’ve asked all the above clarifying questions to your prospect and still can’t properly provide your answer, then be honest with them. You may want to reach out to someone who can actually answer the question, depending on the formality of the meeting. It’s not like you’re quitting on them, so don’t make it that way and phrase your response in this manner:“That’s a really good question. I can honestly tell how important X feature is to our solution by being the best fit for your company. So to give you an accurate answer, I’m going to share this question with some of my colleagues and get back to you on this topic by tomorrow.”Everyone appreciates genuine honesty so there’s no need to feign it in order to make yourself look good. Your openness is what is surely going to gain the interest of both parties at the end of the day.7.  Give a Brief But Engaging ExampleProviding an oral response to your prospect’s question can only go so far, but telling an interesting story or presenting a relevant example can help better illustrate your point to your audience. This way, you can show that your insights and thoughts have practical value instead of words that are coming out of your mouth.Sharing anecdotal mat erial can liven up the mood of your audience to further gain their interest and engage them at personal levels. It’s quite surprising how unaware many of us are with the kind of good storytelling material that we come in contact today. It’s almost like sharing a casual conversation you had your friend or family member.8.  Utilize the Power of SilenceNormally when you’re the focal point of a meeting or conference discussion, silence is anything but good. But if used strategically, you can make it look like you’re the one in charge of your thoughts and have the confidence to respond intelligently.Take this piece of advice and pause. When you do this, you start to look and sound confident and poised. You also have to avoid the temptation of answering quickly, which often results in you speaking quite fast and saying whatever might come to mind. Pausing allows your brain to stay calm and utilize the power of silence to think about what you want to say.9.  Stick to One Point And Keep It SuccinctBeing under pressure can cause you to ramble, that’s why it’s imperative to be succinct in this matter. In other words, choose one thought you have to talk about and give a brief statement to support it. It will enable you to stay focused and come off more authoritative. Here’s an example of how you might be tempted to respond to a prospect’s question about whether or not your platform, let’s say, offers X feature as your competitor does:“Well, you see….we do have Y feature that may be similar and currently being worked on, as well as A and C features that are looking to be released this fall and we’re really excited about that. We even have other clients that are already interested in the A feature, and I believe you could be an excellent candidate for a case study if you opt for our company and choose to go with A feature when it finally drops…”Not only did you literally dodge your prospect’s original question, you also dragged it further from the actual response they were looking for.Instead, you should answer it like this:“At the moment we don’t have the qualities of what X feature offers, but I see three possibilities for us moving forward. First, I will collaborate with our engineering team to see if X feature can be built and what the timeline for it might look like. Second, we will see if there are other features currently available in our product lineup that deliver similar results like X feature. Third, we’ll work out what it means for both of our companies if we can’t meet the requirements of X feature.”This way, you’ve not only answered their question honestly but have also set up a clear and confident roadmap on how to go about it.10.  Prepare Some “What-Ifs”By acknowledging you may get asked questions out of nowhere, you can use all that time to predict some of the likely questions that could be thrown in your way.For example, you could be asked to present the monthly sales figures to your mana gement team. There is a good chance that you’ll cover some of the most common questions that management teams may have, but it might just be good food for thought if you use the extra time to consider and prepare some of the other possible questions that could be asked. Some other possible questions include:What’s different about this month? Are there any other anomalies that you can explain? You need to spend extra time rehearsing and researching before you can answer these questions and also provide additional information to support detailed questions.11.  Avoid Being DefensiveSometimes when people expect no one but you to answer their questions instead of others in the meeting room, you can’t help but feel annoyed or frustrated. In spite of the fact you’ve spent weeks preparing for this presentation of yours, all your hard work is about to blow up on your face.Just bear in mind that it’s not as hopeless as you may make it out to be. It’s also not worth blasting your frus trations out on your prospect either. But it can be quite hard if what your prospect asks has already been covered, has little bearing on the outcome of whether they opt for your company or not, or perhaps their question is just unfounded. You can try your best to address their concerns, but if you can’t offer them a proper solution or an explanation at the moment, then you should just move ahead with your presentation in a professional and polite manner.12.  Know When It’s Time to Stop TalkingThere’s always a time when you need to say something and when you just need to button up. Business strategist Mark Goulston states that there are three stages of conversing with people:Business StageFeel-good stageOff-stage attempt to recover stageThe last one, of course, is where you’ve lost the attention of your audience and you need to rebuild focus on the actual purpose of the presentation.Gholston then recalls a great strategy that his fellow business coach Marty Neko bestowed unto him known simply as “The Traffic Light Rule.” The way it goes is this: In the first 20 seconds of your presentation, the light is green and your audience is engaged. In the next 20 seconds, the light turns yellow and your audience starts to lose interest. At the end of those 40 seconds, the light goes red, which is when you should stop talking. If you want to continue, think about how you’re going to grab your listener’s attention once again by accurately answering their question this time. Instead of dragging on further, just ask your prospect, “Have I answered your question?” Then your prospect will certainly answer.13.  Use an Organized StructureApart from anxiety, another reason we tend to get panicky or blackout during unwelcomed meetings and conversations is that there are so many ideas that keep floating around in our head at once. This is when we are at the verge of wording those ideas out from the mouth, which we shouldn’t.Understand that the questioner or pro spect isn’t looking for you to give some kind of speech on the topic they want. All they want is a clear and concise answer with just enough information to satisfy their concerns and that requires structure. So it’s best to limit yourself to just one or two points, but no more than that. And under each of those points, you can add either one or two brief statements. Here is an example of how you should respond to a prospect:“Yes, I also recommend we migrate our current systems to a new platform due to three main reasons: First, the new software is virtually free of any virus and defects. Second, the new software seamlessly integrates with all of our systems. And lastly, this migration strategy ensures no downtime for our customers.”14.  Lookout for Nonverbal CuesNow while body language is essential, it’s just as wise to take notice of your prospect’s non-verbal cues. According to body language expert Patti Wood, she says that nonverbal cues help determine the motivations of others and analyze business interactions with much more depth, richness, and insight that can come from spoken or printed words. If you’re nervous about a question that you’ve answered, then probe the nonverbal cues that your prospect, as well as other stakeholders in the room, are giving off. Do they appear distracted, restless or disinterested? That’s when it might be time to switch things up a little or ask them directly: “It appears I’ve lost you guys. What can I do to bring some value and purpose into this conversation?”But if your audience is in agreement with what you have shared with them and are holding on to your words with interest and vigor, it is a sign that you’ve handled the situation like a true professional and can move ahead without being nervous at all.NOW PLAN FOR THE UNEXPECTEDTo briefly recap what we’ve discussed in our article, we’ve told you how to relax, pay attention the question being asked, pay attention to the questioner body language , breathe deeply, be confident, honest and ask clarifying questions.Do you know what this means? It means you have excellently fortified yourself to take on any kind of unprecedented presentation, conversation or proposal that comes your way.By mastering most or all of the techniques in this post, you will have slain your incompetence and will be able to steady your nerves as you think about your response to the questioner. However, no matter how well you prepare yourself, you will always deal with situations that leave you stumped. But take that as a challenge that you’re about to conquer and ultimately turn into a brilliant skill.

Conversion of Alcohol to Alkyl Halides Essay - 2563 Words

Conversion of Alcohols to Alkyl Halides Ankita Patel August 6, 2013 Introduction This lab consisted of the conversion of alcohols into alkyl halides through common substitution methods. These methods include SN1 and SN2 mechanism, both of which can occur for this type of reaction. For both reactions, the first step of protonation will be to add hydrogen to the –OH group and then the rest of the reaction will proceed according to the type of mechanism. SN1 reactions form a cation intermediate once the H2O group leaves, then allowing a halide (such as Br) to attack the positively charged reagent1. On the other hand, SN2 reactions are one-step mechanism in which no intermediate is formed and the halide attaches as the leaving†¦show more content†¦Thus, one could safely assume the product from 1-propanol was 1-bromopropane. This is mainly due the C-H wag around 1260cm-1 indication it was a terminal alkyl halide. This reaction went through SN2 mechanism not only because the alcohol was primary but also because there were no rearrangeme nts. If a rearrangement would have occurred, it would have indicated that it was a SN1 mechanism. Further analysis was then done to determine the exact identity of the product and the chemical makeup. B B C C A A B B C C A A Figure 2: NMR Spectrum for 1-propanol The results from the NMR of 1-propanol showed 3 different prominent peaks with the peak at 2.2 cm-1 being the acetone. Because 1-bromopropane has three non-equivalent hydrogens it was found to represent this set of NMR data. The other product, 2-bromopropane only had 2 different types of hydrogens and would have only had 2 peaks. Further analysis of the structure of 1-bromopropane showed that the hydrogens closest the bromine group were an indication of peak A in the graph. Because of the electronegativity of the bromine, this peak was located further downfield. There were 2 neighboring hydrogens so using the n+1 rule gave the 3 peaks. Going down peak B showed the next carbon which had 5 neighboring hydrogens thus giving 6 peaks. Finally, the carbon furthest away from the bromine was found at peak C. It had 2 neighboring hydrogens and provided 3 peaks.Show MoreRelatedConversion of Alcohol to Alkyl Halides716 Words   |  3 PagesIntroduction In this experiment, Conversion of Alcohol to Alkyl Halides and alcohol is converted to an alkyl halide through SN1 or an SN2 mechanism. This is done by using 1-propanol and 2-pentantol with HBr, Hydrobromic acid. Only half of the groups will use 1-propanol, and 2-pentantol. All results are analyzed using NMR and IR. Adventures of an Indian Princess, Analysis Essay - 861 Words

John Fassero, Ethnic Studies 151, Fall 2013 Professor Duane Bigeagle Analysis of â€Å"Adventures of an Indian Princess†, By Patricia Riley The feelings and emotions that make this a powerful and thought-provoking story on stereotyping and general ethnic insensitivity are carried primarily as the author provides you with the internal narrative dialogue and careful observation of a young Cherokee girl named Arletta. Much is communicated without a spoken word by her throughout the essay. Much is said in a one sentence reply to her foster mother at the close of the story. This all amounts to an insult to her intelligence and cultural identity, but through her own sense of survival, she wisely thinks through the situation and manages to retain a sense of placidity. She clearly demonstrated this character trait when literally pushed to the side of this mascot Indian Trading post chief for a ‘pitcher’, to cope she simply mashes her teeth with a visible grimace. But she does retain her dignity nonetheless by not complying with the ‘clever’ demands by Jackson Rapier to say ‘Cherokee’ during the photo shoot. This ability to think beyond the immediate circumstances is present throughout Arletta’s dreadful adventure to the trading post. Essay on the May 4th Movement Free Essays

Geoffrey Lee 6. 16 Macedonia History Essay To what extent do you agree with the assertion that May 4th 1919 was one of the most significant dates in Chinese history. The May 4th movement in 1919 was a significant date in Chinese history to a very large extent. We will write a custom essay sample on Essay on the May 4th Movement or any similar topic only for you Order Now This essay will attempt to justify this claim by explaining the short-term effects of the M4M and more importantly the long-term effects. The year 1919 is a significant year as it was the year right after World War 1 (WW1) had ended; hence many war-settlement treaties were signed. One of these would be the Treaty of Versailles (TOV) which involved China. The M4M was a movement that had begun from the rise of sentiments of democracy and nationalism. Previously, China had been ruled by a single ruler where traditional culture and Confucianism dominated the nation. However after WW1 and the influx of western ideas and ideologies, thus many youth in China begin to call for a demolition of the previous culture and Confucianism, and to replace it with a new culture and direction. This movement was headed by large forms of mass advertising through the use of the New Youth and many other magazines. This increase of national sentiments led to the Chinese demanding that their government to oppose the Japanese 21 demands on Yuan Shikai’s government and it also saw the emergence of the new merchants and labour class. With all these demonstrations and national sentiments, China was in a period of disorder and lawlessness, which was similar to that during the warlord era in the 1800s. In the short-term, the M4M was a significant date in Chinese history to a small extent as it resulted in many strikes and demonstrations throughout China to occur. Students demonstrated in the capital of Beijing while many other occupants such as shopkeepers, industrial workers and other urban employees joined in the strikes and demonstrated in other key cities in China such as in Shanghai. The demonstration also saw a nationwide boycott of Japanese goods in an attempt to show Yuan Shikai to reject the Japanese demands to make China a Japanese protectorate. Also, the government of China was forced into rejecting the terms of the TOV which angered the West. This resulted in massive violence throughout the nation which did the Chinese no good and it aggravated ties between China and the West. In the long-term, the M4M was a significant date in Chinese history to a very large extent as it resulted not only in many cultural changes, but most importantly; it changed the political scene in China. The M4M gave birth to political activism where the people called for the end of a single ruler, but instead to have a democratic government. This surge of political activism was propelled by the education of the youths who believed that they would transform China. The youths emphasized heavily on the destruction of China’s traditional culture which was based on Confucianism, and they assumed that Western thought and civilisation was the way forward. This led to the reorganisation of the Guomindang (GMD) which saw Sun Yatsen calling on the Soviet Union. This also led to the founding of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). The CCP was founded as a result of the increased appeal of Marxism-Leninism, which proved to be very successful in the Soviet Union. These 2 political groups would later take over the whole of the Chinese political scene and would later oppose one another in their attempt to dominate the Chinese government, which would result in massive killings of one another. However these 2 parties would combine forces during the World War 2 (WW2) period to fight off the Japanese imperialism which ensured that China would not fall into the hands of the Japanese. Hence this proved that the M4M was indeed a significant date in the history of China to the largest extent. In conclusion, it can be agreed that the M4M was one of the most significant dates in the history of China simply due to the fact that it was through the M4M that both the GMD underwent a massive reform, and at the same time, the birth of the CCP was witnessed. The combination of these 2 factors proved to be significant as without the formation of either party, China would have suffered much more detrimentally in WW2 as it was only through the surge of nationalism of the Chinese, and the combined forces of the GMD and the CCO that China managed to fight off the Japanese. HSC Environment Health-Summary

Question: Describe about the HSC for Environment Health-Summary. Answer: The chosen article in this essay is the food crisis across Africa. In southern Malawi, the celebration starts at the time of harvesting. Unfortunately, from last week, they have nothing to celebrate as they had picked their little maize crop. The last year's drought along with erratic rains entered into the Nkhotakota village. But there is no view of even rain ion this year also. The stores of grains in the families are getting empty. If the families over there manage to eat a small portion of meal in a day, then also they will be left out with food for two more months (Robertson Hansen, 2015). The Irish charity Concern has commented that more than ten thousand families are running out of the food. There is no chance of harvesting at least for seven months. They are left out with no money, and they don't have anything to sell. The children are getting admitted to the hospital due to malnutrition. This crisis has appeared due to the El Nino weather event, which hit Latin America, much of India, and parts of Southeast Asia since 1982. But the worst situation with warm water in equatorial Pacific is observed in southern Africa. United Nations is shocked from this situation. More than 7.9m tonnes of food and $650m are needed to save this critical condition. Swaziland, Angola, Madagascar, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Mozambique, and Malawi have already declared national emergency. The Even situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Botswana is very critical. President Robert Mugabe has requested to buy $ 1.5 bn food for Malawi and Zimbabwe. As more than 8 million people are in food crisis over there (Peakall Shugart, 2013). At present 31 million people are in need of food which is expected to increase to 49 million by Christmas. It is tough to feed these many people as there is no guarantee of money or food supply. 50 markets are getting monitored for this. But the rate of the food is very high. Only nearby Zambia has the better harvest to share. But by the time food will reach to the point, the situation will be worst. The International countries are coming together for help. According to International Development Minister, Britain will take the leadership in this help. The support will not be provided by money, as there is the high chance of corruption. So the support will be provided through food-for-work schemes, medical aid, and food vouchers, etc. (Nieuwenhuijsen, 2015). According to the researchers, it is estimated that the situation will be deteriorated by April 2017. According to WMO, it is also estimated that there is 50:50 chance of hitting by La Nina, the twin of El Nino. It is developing in the Pacific Ocean right after El Nino. Contractually, heavier monsoon can come due to La Nina. Now the people are suffering due to extreme drought condition (Brown, 2013). In future, one point will come when people suffer from the severe flood condition. References: Brown, P. (2013).Toxic exposures: contested illnesses and the environmental health movement. How AI programs can overcome hiring bias

How AI programs can overcome hiring bias As the adage goes, â€Å"to err is human.† Mistakes and bias are built into the human condition. We can try our very best to maintain objectivity, but more often than not we allow personal biases to creep into our everyday decision making. While most of the time these biases are harmless, this can become a huge problem when your job is hiring people. Hiring bias is, unfortunately, a  real product of the human condition. Something as seemingly innocent as setting up an interview with a candidate just based off the fact that they attended the same high school, or more seriously, refusing someone based off their race or gender, can be problematic- especially in HR. So how can we as professionals prevent this sort of thing from happening? The solution could just be taking the human aspect out of the equation altogether. Artificial intelligence (AI) can eliminate unwanted bias during the hiring process. Originally appearing in an article posted on PandoLogic’s blog,  her e are some ways AI can erase hiring bias.Prevent hiring discrimination danger zonesAI works off data, meaning you still have the power to crunch the numbers. If you’re worried about bias creeping in, you can set the program to exclude metrics that indicate age, race, or gender. This leaves you with only the pertinent  information: experience, skills, capabilities, etc.According to a recent meta-study compiled by PNAS, hiring discrimination remains mostly unchanged over the past 25 years. Minorities continue to receive 30-50% fewer callbacks than their white counterparts. By and large, fewer callbacks mean fewer offers for Latinx and African-American candidates. No matter how qualified these candidates are on paper, they’re just not being considered as often. As alarming as these stats seem, we do have the means with which to combat the debilitating bias some people face. AI can make sure these candidates don’t fall through the cracks and are considered for qua lified positions.Set up guidelinesWe’ve all had that one boss that would drill standards and protocols into our brains until we could recite them in our sleep. As helpful as that was, living in the 21st century definitely has its perks. Just make tech do it!hbspt.cta.load(2785852, '9e52c197-5b5b-45e6-af34-d56403f973c5', {});You can quickly tell a program to follow specific guidelines and guarantee it will listen better than an intern. Let’s say you want to make sure you and your team follow the Equal Employment Opportunity  Commission (EEOC) guidelines. With an AI program, you can easily enter EEOC values to process applications. The result is a batch of qualified candidates that hit all the marks and follow all the rules.Streamline the interview processThe interview is still one of the most essential aspects of the hiring process. A face-to-face conversation remains a time-tested standard for hiring teams. If you’re a veteran interviewer, then you are keenly aware of the question-related pitfalls to avoid. But can you say the same for the rest of your team? This is where AI can jump in to help. You’ve screened your candidate using AI; now it’s your turn! AI programs like Ansaro  can allow you and your team to collaborate on proper, non-biased interview questions to ask against a grading system that you create. A pre-prepped interviewer can then grade candidates on a fairer scale. The interview may be a staple on the road to hiring, but how you prepare for one is evolving. Hiring discrimination has been a problem for decades across various industries and workplaces. Utilizing technological advancements to end this issue is exactly what tech should do: improve our lives for the better.

Business Management Techniques (Manage work activities) Essay

Business Management Techniques (Manage work activities) - Essay Example ining an organizations objectives, establishing an overall strategy for achieving those objectives, and developing a comprehensive chain of command of plans to integrate and coordinate activities. The plan of action is, at one and the same time, the result predicted, the line of action to be followed, the stages to go through and the methods to be used. Organizing is the translation of goals and objectives into a structure of responsibilities and authority. To organize a business is to provide it with everything useful to its functioning- raw material, tools, capital, personnel’ (Fayol, 53). In other words it includes the determination of what tasks are to be done, which has to do them, how the tasks are to be grouped, who reports to whom, and where decisions are to be made. The engineering organization, having been formed, must be set going and this is the mission of command. This insures a successful process of the organization. Smog Pollution And Problems It Causes Environmental Sciences Essay

Smog Pollution And Problems It Causes Environmental Sciences Essay Smog pollution is a major problem that this planet is suffering from everyday. It has affected our homes, weather, and health. It is a very dangerous situation for us if we do not do anything about it. Smog pollution is caused by chemicals, automobiles, factories and corporations. The greatest thing we can do as a society is try to find a way to help prevent and stop smog pollution. If the people on this planet do not do anything to stop smog pollution we are going to have a BIG problem and it will hurt us in the future. We need a plan and we need to put a stop to smog pollution. The American Lung Association (ALA) has been trying to find ways to help stop and prevent smog pollution from hurting us and the environment. If we can just do our part and find a way to prevent this problem from getting any bigger, it will benefit us all. We all have heard of smog pollution, but do we really know what it is. Smog pollution has many causes that can be hazardous and dangerous to our health and well being. The term smog pollution is also known as photochemical smog. It is formed by the interaction with sunlight with different types of chemicals in earths atmosphere (Oblack). The main component of smog pollution or photochemical pollution is ozone. Ozone is in the earths stratosphere, which the shields the earth from dangerous UV radiation from the sun. The problem with ozone is when it touches down on the earths surface it can be very dangerous and can cause serious health problems for people on the planet (Oblack). The ground level ozone is made by the emissions of automobiles that put nitrogen oxide into the air, which is caused by the vehicles exhaust fumes (Oblack). The organic components from the fumes combined with the ozone and fume evaporation that combines with sunlight, causes smog pollution on the planet (Oblack). Many people try to find ways to help avoid smog in a more planet friendly environment, so some people use substitutes for their everyday use. There is just one problem with that, and that is the sun. Many people dont understand that sunlight and warm climates cause pollution. For example, places like California, Florida, and Arizona and even North America are some of the most polluted places in the country (Oblack). Another problem that causes an increase in smog pollution is the increased usage of fossil fuels for industrial, heating, and of course transportation purposes (All that smog). Also, cutting down, burning trees, and disposing of agricultural and organic waste can also lead to emissions of smog pollution and harmful problems for the planet (All that Smog). Sunlight mixed with different types of dangerous chemicals (se condary pollution) also makes it difficult to stop smog pollution from occurring on the surface of the planet (All that Smog), which creates another big problem. Climate is a major factor for the cause of smog pollution. Many places in the world can try to be more environmental friendly to help save our planet. Some people ride bicycles instead of driving cars. Other people try to reduce their use of using fire to warm themselves. The only problem that these people cannot get away from is something that they cannot control, and that is the sun. California is ranked in the top 10 most polluted areas in the United States. Ozone pollution that is caused by the sun has a major affect on this planet. Smog and air pollution is having a serious impact on the environment and can condemn all ecosystems (seirraclub). The reason why the sun causes so many problems is because the ozone layer that is supposed to protect planet earth is practically destroyed. Without the protection, the sun is able to shine radiation onto the planet and is the main reason for many health issues that people go through every day. Issues like skin cancer, radiation poisoning, and sun burn are having fatal affects on people. This type of pollution not only harms humans, but it can also harm wild life and the environment. Smog can harm different plants, which can lead to damaging consequences. Because the plants are damaged, it makes it hard for plants to make and save food for themselves in their living environment (seirraclub). In addition, the sun and smog can destroy leaves and plants it would make many of the plants vulnerable to getting diseases. And, they cannot defend themselves from different types of bugs and insects that can cause a huge decrease in plant life (seirraclub). Smog pollution is a yearly problem for places like Texas, Georgia, Florida, and many other southern and sunny parts of the world, but there is also a big increase in smog pollution in the summer (seirraclub). This is caused by strong sunlight that burns the earths surface. However, the one thing that is helping smog pollution is all of the problems that are on this planet. A ll of the power plants, automobile emissions, industrial, and chemical vapors are other causes of pollution (seirraclub). Climate changes are part of the problem as well. Within the months of June, July, and August, it makes it harder to try and control the smog pollution, due to the sun. This planet has gone through billions of years of evolution. It survived dinosaurs, the ice age, and the black plague, but because of smog pollution this planet might not be able to survive this new attack. A major problem smog pollution is causing is health concerns for the public. Smog pollution is affecting human health because it is making it harder to breathe the smog induced air. Because of this and sun radiation, this is resulting in many fatalities, including skin and lung cancer. Peoples lungs and hearts can be dangerously affected by smog and air pollution (Oblack). Many people are still skeptical about smog pollution, but one thing that is known is long term exposure can result in dangerous and even fatal heath affects to people (Oblack). Some of the long term affects caused by exposure to smog pollution are problems breathing, coughing, wheezing, pneumonia, bronchitis, inflammation of the pulmonarys, lung cancer, heart problems, asthma like symptoms, pre mature aging of lungs, and last, but not least, death (Oblack). Smog pollution, even in small doses, can be very dangerous and harmful to all people. The American Lung Association estimated that 48 percent of people in the w orld live with very high levels of smog (seirraclub). Even though exposure to smog is dangerous, there are three types of people who can be severely damaged from smog, which include children, the elderly, and people with respiratory problems (seirraclub). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has created the Air Quality Index which lets you check the air density and pollution level around your areas (seirraclub). Furthermore, The Department of Motor vehicles have been trying to develop a plan to reduce vehicle emission and try to improve on air quality for the planet and help save the planet (Malone). The DMV has also been trying to encourage the residents of the United States to help stop smog. They are trying to do their part by asking people to report anyone who has visible exhaust coming out of their automobiles (Malone). If we can all do our fair share and help support this plan we can be able to help stop smog pollution. In all, smog pollution is a major concern for our environment and this planet. If we do not find a way to try and stop smog pollution, we will have many more health problems. Fortunately, there are people who are trying to find ways to stop smog pollution. Many people who are trying to create plans that can help bring this planet back to a healthier state. In 1996, smoking vehicle program was passed that stated that anyone who sees smoking exhaust coming from cars, trucks, or any other motor vehicles were to voluntarily report it to the authorities as a way of preventing polluted air (Malone). It is also there to help educate people about smog pollution and what they can do to help stop it (Malone). The American Lung Association (ALA) also came up with certain help to bring attention to the issue of smog pollution. They advised people to pay more attention to the Air Quality Index (AQI) around their area. They tried to educate people about Ozone action days and how not to ignore them . Finally, ALA attempted to help people get familiar with how smog adversely affects their health (Oblack). The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) takes it upon them to check evidence every five years to see whether or not the situation of smog pollution has changed for better or worse (seirraclub). It is very simple to stop smog pollution. We can all use our cars, trucks, and motorcycles, sparingly. We all must try to do our fair share and we must be able to bring awareness to how dangerous the sun can really be. We need to fight back against smog. If we do not do anything about it, this planet and everything on it will suffer. Group against Smog and Pollution (GASP) is a non-profit citizens group in Southwestern Pennsylvania working for a healthy, sustainable environment. GASP was founded in 1969, with a group of volunteers who were worried about air quality issues here in Pennsylvania. GASP has been a diligent watchdog, educator, litigator, and policy-maker on many environment al issues, with a focus on air quality in the Pittsburgh region. Their objective is to teach and enlighten the public about pollution and its remedies. Their Mission Statement is will act to obtain for the residents of Western Pennsylvania clean air, water, and land in order to create a healthy, sustainable environment and quality of life to which we are entitled (Groups against Smog and Pollution.) Obviously GASP is doing their part, but what are we doing as individuals to help?

A creative intervention into a multicultural education setting

A multicultural education setting should fundamentally be an awareness-raising educational setting that, for the sole aim of justifying and inspiring a progressive inter-cultural cross-fertilisation, spotlights the challenges of co-existence in a multicultural local and global environment. Therefore, multicultural education has the primary goal of inculcating students with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary for them to adjust voluntarily, co-operatingly and unobtrusively to the conditions and of a culturally and ethnically diverse nation, meeting these intra-national challenges and employing them constructively.A support of this assertion lies in James A. Banks’ statement, â€Å"[multicultural education] is designed to empower all students to become knowledgeable, caring, and active citizens in a deeply troubled and ethnically polarized nation and world.†However, the full implementation of the concept of an ideal multicultural education is not yet in evidence . What are generally on the ground are executions of facets of the concept, often with unsavoury and questionable unilaterality. What is outlined above is, therefore, for all practical purposes, an ideal to which every (nominal) multicultural education setting should aspire. To remedy this one-sidedness in the generality of multicultural educational settings, one will do well to adopt a creative approach to the trends currently in evidence.(A).  Ã‚   A CREATIVE INTERVENTION INTO THE CONDITION OF THE DAVIDAMBROSE MULTICULTURAL COLLEGE, MOPTI(a) CREATIVITY: A creative intervention into the multicultural education setting of David Ambrose College, Mopti, as set out in the folio, is by no means a be-all-end-all intervention; it is no ultimate answer to its dysfunction, but an attempt to uplift it, according to a conceived ideal, to more respectable heights.Creativity embraces rational and clear thinking, individual exploration of ideas and concepts, and an experimenting with the possib ly untried in an attempt to further and ennoble an existing condition..   It is â€Å"inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules†¦..† Mary Lou Cook. Two popular theories of creativity will be applied towards this intervention: The divergent theory (DT) and the associative theory. The divergent theory of creativity is a theory of systematic exploration of possibilities, a theory of serendipity. This theory   suggests that in questing for a   creative solution to some problem, a broad range of ideas, concepts, suggestions and recommendation are explored, the seemingly valid as well the seemingly invalid, a process generally associated with what is called â€Å"cognitive overinclusiveness† (CO).Considered a fundamental part of the creative spirit, CO is the inclusion of the likely (apparently logical) as well as the unlikely (apparently illogical) in the range of considerations towards a solution to a problem or towards the creation of new id eas. â€Å"(a) many,   as opposed to only a few, ideas; (b) a wide range of ideas; and (c)   unusual (as well as more typical) ideas† (Boorstin) – all are put into consideration. The associative theory, on the other hand, is a theory of similarities. It arose from the observation of the tendency of creative minds to associate an idea related to the issue being resolved to another which seems to expand or clarify it. This process sometimes results in an interfusion or union of various associated ideas into a novelty which contains the sought solution.
